MJ: Zendaya
Zendaya brought a socially awkward and sarcastic MJ to the screen. I found her a very relatable character, whose lines had me laughing into my popcorn while watching. She is the most recent MJ and Tom Holland plays her Peter Parker. I love how awkward and shy they are at the beginning, and grow more comfortable with each other by ‘No Way Home.’ Overall, Zendaya’s MJ is a great character on her own and with her Peter.
Appearances: Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man Far From Home, Spider-Man No Way Home
Aunt May: Marisa Tomei
Tomei’s Aunt May is also the most recent from the Marvel Cinematic Universe. She adds a new spin on the character and portrays a younger Aunt May. She raised Peter on her own after his parents died and ended up being okay with his whole superhero thing. She and Happy also had a relationship for a bit, which I found very sweet and awkward. I think with all of her nurturing and funny comments she really gives off cool aunt vibes.
Appearances: Spider-Man Homecoming, Spider-Man Far From Home, Spider-Man No Way Home
Spider-Verse: Miles Morales
Miles is the main character in the animated movie. His love for graffiti and music, as well as his teenage awkwardness make him relatable to many, especially teens. He is also the first Black and Hispanic Spider-Man in both the comics and movie. Miles’ story is full of complex characters and thrilling plot twists.
Appearances: Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Andrew Garfield
Why is Andrew Garfield the best spider-man according to KSS students? Well that’s simple. It was back in 2012 when the Amazing Spider-Man first came out in theaters, firmly establishing itself in the middle of our childhoods. He will be remembered to many as our introduction to the character and from then on, everything we based other Spider-Men on was his outstanding performance.
What truly drew people to Garfield was the pure charisma and fantastic performance he consistently delivered throughout his two films. His chemistry with his co-star Emma Stone (Gwen Stacy) was unmatched and his comedic timing was never lacking. It’s also important to mention that Garfield’s movies always had a key child character who Spider-Man would interact with and inspire. In these kids, many of us saw ourselves, which gave us inspiration to reach for the impossible as well as provided us with an extremely cool role model.
Of course there’s no denying that we as a fan base can’t help but feel a little bad for him. The first movie, with its flaws, set a solid fan base up for the actor. However, it was the colossal flop of the Amazing Spider-Man 2, impacted by panicked reshoots and plot lines that weren’t resolved, that sent the series into the ground. The Amazing Spider-Man 3 was never made and you can’t help but feel for Garfield, who put his heart and soul into a movie that couldn’t be saved by him alone.
We love him and when we saw him return for Spider-Man: No Way Home, we all were filled with joy at his return and his outstanding ability to pick the character up right where we left off. He remains to this day, our Spider-Man. #amazingspiderman3
