With masks and quadmesters, it is no doubt that social connection has become more of a challenge than before, and that has also meant that many students have not had the opportunity to meet all of the new teachers at KSS. Did you know that there are six new teachers at KSS this year? We asked them a few questions to get to know them a bit better.
Mr. Campbell
Mr. Campbell has been teaching high school for three years and has also taught college in his teaching career. He enjoys working with students and helping them to “bridge the gap between them and their dreams.” When not in the classroom, Mr. Campbell loves gardening, cooking, and spending time with his newborn baby. Mr. Campbell is musically talented as well, with a background in musical theatre and a passion for playing guitar and piano. Fun Fact: Mr. Campbell used to live in PEI!
Mr. Hall
Mr. Hall was inspired to become a teacher after helping out with a peer tutoring program where a teacher suggested he pursue a career in education. He attended Queen’s University for his Bachelor of Physical Education and Bachelor of Science, and completed his teaching placements at KCVI with Ms. James and Mr. Loken! Mr. Hall likes to spend time with his four-year-old and stay active with sports like golf, frisbee and badminton. Fun fact: Mr. Hall has a cat named Rico!
Ms. Buckley
Ms. Buckley has been teaching in the LDSB for two years now, following her two-year science teaching experience in London, England. Her favourite part of being a teacher is seeing students “grow as learners and individuals.” Ms. Buckley savours the great outdoors through photography, camping and hiking, and loves spending quality time with family and friends. She also has two cats named Pumpkin and Muffin. Ms. Buckley is thrilled to be back in person at KSS and encourages students to say hi if they see her around the school! Fun Fact: Ms. Buckley has travelled in ten countries and is looking forward to exploring Saskatchewan and Nova Scotia in the future.
Ms. Hamilton
Ms. Hamilton has been teaching for 15 years after completing her teaching degree in outdoor education at Lakehead University. Ms. Hamilton is passionate about teaching because it allows her to help others find their meaning and in turn inspires the discovery of her own value. She is very excited to be at KSS this year, as she enjoys working with others and “being a part of a community of learners.” When not in the classroom, Ms. Hamilton loves spending time with her family, getting outside and enjoying the scenic views of the waterfront. Fun Fact: Ms. Hamilton used to work at QECVI!
Mr. Rowden
Mr. Rowden has been in the LDSB for seven years and has worked as a literacy tutor in past years. He loves the staff and students at KSS, but not the long trek to the third floor (we can all relate to that one!). One of Mr. Rowden’s favourite parts of teaching is seeing students succeed at something they had difficulty with at first. He strives to impart his love of learning to students and is excited to be involved in various extracurriculars this year. In his free time, Mr. Rowden loves to read, write, swing dance, and play board games and soccer. Fun fact: Mr. Rowden has helped to start up the Tabletop and Anime clubs here at KSS!
We are so excited to welcome these incredible new staff to the KSS community!
