Hearing is Overrated

Hearing is overrated,

Noise does not please my ears

I don't need to hear people speaking,

To know I am not alone

I don't need to hear music,

To be told what I already know

Sound doesn't belong,

In a world where we’re silenced anyhow

Why do I need to hear,

If no one listens to our voices

That weave together to make baskets

Of protests and reasoning

Hearing is overrated,

Or, so they say

I don't need to hear the birds chirp,

To recognize a new day

A new day of the same things,

The same problems,

The same lack of solutions

To hear is to listen

And why would I want to do that?

When I could go about my day

Ignoring,

Pretending,

That the world's problems

will magically go away

But just because you don't hear it,

Or see it,

Or feel it,

Does not make everyone

Suddenly cease to exist

We are still here,

Every second of every day

We are still here,

And we will continue to stay
