In this day and age, there seem to be endless places that we store the information of our lives. Maybe you use an online calendar, an agenda, or google drive folders to keep organized… or maybe you use all of these platforms and are tirelessly flipping between each medium to find out where you wrote down that date for your dentist appointment only to realize you never did at all…
Not to fear! The beauty of bullet journaling can help to solve this disorganized dilemma.
The bullet journal (called a BuJo for short) is a one-stop-shop for all of your daily needs. It acts as a diary, planner, goal-setting log, and pretty much anything you can imagine! Oftentimes, BuJo involves calligraphy, coloring and decoration, making it an activity that not only helps you to organize your busy life but also to slow down and have some fun transforming chaos into creativity. Bullet journalling turns a simple blank or dotted grid notebook into an artistic visual of important pieces in your life. Ryder Carrol, founder of the original bullet journal, calls the activity: “a mindfulness practice disguised as a productivity system.”
Here are some simple steps for you to get started with BuJo!
Gather a few simple materials
A blank or dotted grid paper notebook (you can find these at Midori or Dollar Stores here in Kingston).
Writing utensil(s): Pencil, pens, markers, crayons- you name it!
Find your purpose: how do you want to use your bullet journal?
Daily/weekly/ monthly entries
Gratitude lists of good things that happen each day
Workout log
To-do lists
Goal-setting
Study plans
All of the above
Get your BuJo on!
Have fun exploring different fonts, doodles and charts to make your bullet journal easy to read and fun to look at.
Don’t strive for perfection: just get your ideas on paper and see where it takes you.
