It is not uncommon for teenagers to work part-time jobs, but one student at KSS has chosen to do more than just work at a fast food counter at Mcdonald’s. Sam Delisle started her very own business, Rainy Day Creations, in 2019. Rainy Day Creations feature all homemade jewelry including necklaces, rings and bookmarks. Sam uses intricate wire wrapping to create complex patterns as well as display pieces of sea glass found along the shores of Lake Ontario.
While Sam has had great successes with her business, like many others, COVID has caused some unfortunate setbacks. Perhaps one of the biggest setbacks was the cancellation of a large craft fair Sam was set to attend, which would have expanded her clientele, increasing sales. However, Sam is still hopeful and is looking to increase her audience Canada-wide.
Running a business as a fulltime student seems pretty draining, but not for Sam. She says that the important thing about being an entrepreneur is focusing not on what you think will sell, but on what you enjoy making. This method of thinking has allowed her to treat her business as a form of reward for completing schoolwork, which increases her productivity not only in school but also creatively through designing and creating jewelry.
With all of this hard work it is no wonder Rainy Day Creations has such a long list of happy customers, myself included. In this time of isolation it is very heartwarming to receive a package filled with handmade jewelry as well as a personalized note.
