KSS Memories

By Ella Coulter, Claire Brackenbury and Sadie DeArruda | June 21 2021 |

KSS Nostalgia Poem

From “Hallways are Highways!” to “Six Feet Apart!”

This year has been different right from the start

Everyday, we all wore a mask

And online learning was no simple task!

Yet despite all the obstacles, we still had some fun

With Spirit Days, and the infamous MUN

Looking back on the year, it feels bittersweet

But we all got through it; that’s an incredible feat!

With a pat on the back, and a celebratory cheer,

“Have a wonderful summer, we’ll see you next year!”

Congratulations to everyone (staff & students) on completing the 2020-2021 school year! From COVID protocols to moving schools, it’s been a wild ride. We are so impressed with everyone’s resilience and determination to make the most of the year. Thank you to everyone who sent in their favourite memories from this year! Here are some highlights:

Namirah: First day back in-person in September :)

The Bears Bulletin: That was so much fun seeing everyone after a long summer.

Emma: performing at the coffeehouse for relay for life!

The Bears Bulletin: You sounded amazing during the coffeehouse! Thanks for sharing your talent.

Laudi: Art class with Mrs. Munro

The Bears Bulletin: So creative and fun!

Sadie: Writing three essays on Macbeth, and getting to sumbit all three as rough work.

The Bears Bulletin: That sounds like a killer assignment.

Jeremy: Making music to put on the radio station

The Bears Bulletin: We’re always excited to lend an ear!

Jaclyn: Skirt day

The Bears Bulletin: That was such a great initiative!

Eve: When the Blues Brothers showed up at KSS and stole my advanced functions homework. That is why it never got submitted.

The Bears Bulletin: Sure, Eve, whatever you say…

Emily: I had a lot of fun brightening up people's days by dressing up as Bernie the Bear in the mornings and greeting them outside of the school.

The Bears Bulletin: I think we can all say we’re Bear-y thankful for your work. You see what I did there…?

Nate: 80’s day with Ms Farahani’s IB advanced functions class. Lots of people dressed up and later we played basketball in the gym for intramurals. Some of the most normal KSS fun I’d had in a while.

The Bears Bulletin: Spirit days are the best! Shout-out to the Athletic Council for organizing an awesome spirit week. Congrats to the grade 12s for winning the KSS Olympics.

Xan: I really loved that one part where we said the school year was going to be more consistent and then we went through two schools and two lockdowns, only to find out that the graduating class of 2020 still had it harder than us. Honestly this year started off really strong, with the world being united by Among Us. It kinda only got worse from there. My favourite memory from the year was probably when Biden got sworn in.

The Bears Bulletin: It was definitely a roller-coaster of a year, but we all got through it!

Nichole: My friend, Michaela, and I have been talking about starting a two-person dance group together, so we set up a YouTube channel and an Instagram account where we could share our dance covers. I also had surgery that initially left me on crutches. I started my industrial cooking class on crutches and finished the class on two feet, which is a pretty big accomplishment.

The Bears Bulletin: Wow! Congratulations on some awesome accomplishments! We’ll be keeping an eye out for future videos.

Claire: Relay for Life events and coffeehouse!

The Bears Bulletin: That was a lot of fun. It was so great that we exceeded our fundraising goal as a school!

Carl: Touring the new school for the first time and seeing the new computer lab.

The Bears Bulletin: So excited to see all the cool things you might create in the computer lab!

Sarah: Back in the fall at KC: going down to the water and doing yoga as a class during psych, soc & anthro.

The Bears Bulletin: Definitely sounds like you were a hard working bunch in psych, soc, and antro. Keep up the good work!

Brianna: My favourite memory from this year would have to be hospitality and tourism with Mr. Alexander

The Bears Bulletin: So glad you enjoyed that class! That must have been a fun octomester.

Ella: Participating in Model UN for the first time!

The Bears Bulletin: What an awesome experience!

Miguel: Had an online class with people I knew from school.

The Bears Bulletin: That definitely makes all the difference. Hopefully we’ll see you again in person in September!

Dedicated Bears Bulletin Fan: Everyone dressing up as Mr. Watson during KSS spirit week.

The Bears Bulletin: Haha, and the chickens were a great touch!
