It’s the end of the year and with that comes graduation! Where are KSS students taking their talents in the post-secondary domain? Read below to find out.

University
Dalhousie University
Sam Harris will study engineering and he plans on sailing on the Atlantic Ocean. He’s excited to live in Halifax with his friends, though he’s going to miss his friends who are attending other universities.
Tommy Kalin will major in Commerce at Dalhousie. He’s excited to move to Halifax and will miss the community at KSS.
University of Guelph
Abby Saunders is studying biomedical science at the University of Guelph. She is most excited to leave Kingston and plans to use her university meal plan for Starbucks.
University of King's College Halifax
Satish Patel is attending the University of King's College in Halifax and taking the Arts Foundation Year Program. He is most excited about meeting new friends and will miss KSS sports teams.
McGill University
Emma Huigens will take first year arts and she’s most excited to take cool classes. She plans on learning to cook different types of food. She will miss the people at KSS.
Jonah Davidson-Harden will study in the freshman Arts & Science program. He’s excited to live in Montreal and hopes to join a varsity choir, band or both. He’s going to miss the friends and classmates that he might not see as often or ever after grade 12.
McMaster University
Rylie Bradlynn will study kinesiology at McMaster University. She is excited about her program mainly because she has the opportunity to study something that she is really passionate about. She says she will miss the vibes of people from KSS.
Jody Beach will major in social science and she is most excited about meeting new people. She plans on going on a solo trip before school starts in the fall. She will miss seeing her friends every day in school.
University of New Brunswick
Lexi Running is attending the University of New Brunswick. She is most excited about the prospect of exploring something new. She will miss the close knit community of staff and students.
University of Ottawa
Dan Cassista will study history and is most excited about the change of scenery and the lifestyle he will have at uOttawa. He hopes to take up learning a new language in his free time and will miss his friends and family.
Nigel Flynn will take commerce at the University of Ottawa. He is excited to become more independent and live in a new city. He hopes to continue playing sports by playing intramurals and playing hockey on outdoor rinks in the winter. He will miss high school sports the most.
Queen’s University
Nate Loken (the writer of this article) will take Concurrent Education for Arts. He is excited to live in residence for his first year as well as take interesting classes such as philosophy, psychology and more. He hopes to play intramural volleyball as well as join various clubs.
Claire Brackenbury will take Concurrent Education and run with the Queen’s cross country team. She is most excited to meet new people and join lots of clubs. She will miss the people at KSS and the track.
Isidora Ferguson will major in science and will be a member of the Queen’s rowing team in their “insane” facilities. She is also planning to join the Queen’s cycling club. She states that she will miss the teachers the most as she moves on to post-secondary.
Ava Pirhadi will study Life Sciences at Queen’s University. She states that she is “excited about almost every single part of it because everything will be new” as well as studying a program she is genuinely passionate about. She wants to improve her art skills as well as develop financial independence during university by investing in her spare time. She will miss the friends she met in highschool.
Milan Rice will major in Concurrent Education for Science. She is excited to live on her own and get student discounts as well as plans on traveling at some point during the next year. She will miss the teachers and the free snacks in student services.
Jad Tirani will study Life Sciences. He is excited to be at University with his friends Nate and Ishan, though he’s sad that he won’t be able to see David as much.
Ava Simpson will major in Concurrent Education. She’s excited to meet new people and hopefully go on exchange to Europe. She plans on saving up for a car now that she has her license. She will miss the people, stating “it’ll be super weird to not go to school with the people I’ve grown up with for the past four years.”
University of Toronto
Chelsea Kim will study commerce. She is most excited to meet new people and hang out in downtown Toronto. She says she won’t miss stressing about IB requirements.
Brigid Green will attend UofT for Life Sciences. She’s excited primarily to move out of Kingston and meet new people as well as get her own cat. She says she’ll miss the recycling team at KSS.
Dash Giguere will major in mathematics, he’s excited to meet new people and learn new things during his first year of university. He will miss the community at KSS most of all.
University of Victoria
Max Kuchlein will study computer science at the University of Victoria. He’s excited to live in British Columbia and will miss seeing his friends everyday.
University of Waterloo
David Chen will attend the University of Waterloo for mathematics. He is excited to learn higher level mathematics. He will miss Jad most of all.
Griffin Wilson will study Mechatronic Engineering. He is most excited about doing many co-ops during his time in university. He will miss the smaller cohorts that he experienced in high school.
Wesleyan University
Lucy D’Elia will attend Wesleyan University for a general undergraduate degree. She is excited for the variety of classes she will be able to take. Her plans consist of “actually getting [her] g2 license.”
Western University
Aalpesh Dayal will attend Western University. He is most excited about living independently. He plans on getting an internship or a co-op. He’s going to miss the support from staff, friends and parents.
Yilin Wang will study Management and Organization Studies at Western University with Ivey AEO. She is most excited about living in a new city for the first time. She is going to miss her friends in Kingston.
Sébastien Kneppert will major in medical science. He is most excited for Doritos at university. Under future plans, he wrote “buying a new yacht.”
York University
Emilyn Aucoin will study biomedical science at York University. She is most excited to live in a new city and she plans on continuing to train as a national trampoline athlete in Toronto. She will miss the small class sizes in high school.
College
St. Lawrence College
Haleigh Gilbert’s post secondary plans will keep her right here in Kingston, where she plans on buying a car as well as taking the Early Childhood Education Program at St. Lawrence College. She is excited to meet new friends at St. Lawrence but will also miss her high school friends.
Shyla Cao will also be attending St. Lawrence College, but will be taking computer programming. She is most excited for new experiences, specifically making new friends and learning more about making video games. In her spare time, she hopes to improve her archery, guitar and drawing skills. She will miss the people at KSS and the fun events that we hosted.
Jairah Villalon will study computer programming and analytics. He’s excited to work with computers in more different ways. He plans on saving money for large purchases like a personal computer. He is going to miss the direction and guidance provided in high school.
Returning for Another Year of High School
Nicole McLean will be returning to KSS for a fifth year. She's excited to learn new things all over again and hopes to explore her hobbies more in the future. She states that she will miss the “amazing people [she’s] met and the friends [she’s] made over these 4 years.”
Gap Year
Not all students will be immediately attending post-secondary education, some like Chloe Derbyshire, will be taking a gap year. She is most excited about the fact that she will never have to take Chemistry again. Her plans for the next year will take her all the way out into the fields where she will be starting a corn farm. She states that she’ll miss Focaccia Fridays the most as she moves on.
Obviously, this is a small sample of students from KSS. There are many groups of people not represented in the information we collected. Some students may have post-secondary plans not mentioned in this article such as completing an apprenticeship, going straight into the workforce and more. For more information on this, we encourage you to ask as many of your peers as possible what they plan to do in next year and the following years. Graduates, thank you so much for all that you have done for our school community over the past four years, you will be missed. Good luck to all from the Bears Bulletin staff.
